Sweater Ball Complete

My baby steps keep moving me forward -- last night I sewed the last strip onto the ginormous sweater ball.  Next step is to get out my giant crochet hook and see what this sweater yarn will make.  I'm thinking I will try for at least one but maybe two floor mats for the dogs to hang out on.  We'll see if Sophie and Shenanigan will buy it. They don't look too enthused.

P.S. The entertainment "center" you can see behind the sewing machine is another project on my list.  I have something waiting in the garage for its turn.  I do love the speakers though.  My dad made them in the 70s!

Mr. Mouse, You Can Have the House

Two weeks, one human trap, four inhumane traps and one box of mouse poison later, I'm at my wits end.  Not one mouse has been caught by any of the above listed methods.  Mr. Mouse is much smarter than I gave him credit for.  If he and I could only renegotiate the terms of his occupation, no traps would be necessary at all.  I would be fine if he would like to inhabit our detached garage (without using the car of course) and he can feast off all the extra garden tomatoes he and his family would like.  Right now however, he seems to be happy to reside in our oven.  The pantry has been cleared out to avoid any temptation but the promised pantry reno will have to wait until after the holiday craziness has passed us by.  Happy Holidays Mr. Mouse.  I hope you enjoy the warm house while it lasts . . . your days may be numbered!

Almost a new year, time to finish up old projects!

So, in a fit of inspiration last year,  I felted and shredded 4 or 5 Goodwill sweaters.   Believe it or not (JT) I'm really trying to clean out slash organize the basement.  I came across this abandoned project and decided to (try and) finish it up.  So last night I got out the sewing machine again and began stitching the sweater strips together end-to-end to create a giant sweater yarn ball.  When that's all done, I think I will use my extra large crochet hook and fashion together some kind of rug.  We'll see how this goes . . .

Starting to get in the spirit

JT and I got the tree up and in place last Sunday.  Thank goodness for the narrow trees that take up so little floor space.  We're trying it out in a new spot this year and so far I am enjoying it.  I think Elvis is too . . .

Mouse in the House

The other night after JT and I cooked up a big dinner - steak for him and some kind of salmon pinwheel for me - he lit up a fire in our fireplace.  A mouse ran out!!!  Mr. Mouse (for some reason I think of all small creatures in the masculine sense) is now in our kitchen, having the time of his furry life.  He left a little fur-baby gift on the oven this morning - sometime in the night he must have squeezed in through the 1/2" gap to feast on all the steak drippings.  I really hope he is hanging out and eating the cheese and peanut butter in the humane trap I made JT get at the hardware store.  At least this is most definitely the motivation I need to get to the Container Store and organize the pantry.  I'll post some pictures as I get underway (and learn how to post pictures -- yikes!)

Drumroll -- first post!

Hello blogosphere (is it still called that?) Here I am,  the latest late-comer to the world of blogging.  You guys were making it look like so much fun, I guess I wanted in.  Hopefully I can do this without embarrasing myself (probably too late).
